HOW TO: Make a Mini Plant Hanger

I've been doing macrame since I was in the girl scouts. The first time I went to summer camp at 11 years old I fell in love with the box braid. The most difficult part about the box braid is starting it off. Once it is started it provides stability for a project like a key chain or plant hanger. For this project, we will be making a plant hanger that is supported by a wooden ring that starts with a basic box braid but is on the diagonal to give a spiral appearance.

What You'll Need:

  1. Measure Tape - helpful but not necessary

  2. Scissors

  3. Wooden Ring - I get these in a large pack from Amazon

  4. Favorite Fiber of choice - either 4mm cotton cord or 5mm rope

I like to use cotton cord, I find it easier to make more secure knots. I buy my rope and cord supplies from Modern Macrame or Holm Made Macrame. Both are female-owned small businesses.

Check out my video tutorial below for my step-by-step process of how I made my mini plant hanger.

If you don't want to craft your own plant hanger or would like a more 'standard' size macrame plant hanger, they are available for purchase in my shop.

*Please note that I measure most of my projects long to use the excess to make key chains, tassels, or additional elements for other macrame projects.
